The 2011 con

Had there ever been a moment that should have benefited the Moroccan people it was surely in 2011, the time of the so-called Arab Spring and the highlight of the February 20 Movement.

For a short while the King and his gang had to think and think hard about a response to avoid the same results as one could witness in Egypt, Tunisia and other countries. And they came up with an ingenious and yet simple swindle, they created a fairy tale heralded by the King in which they promised the people a new constitution and they fooled the people by made up elections that were ‘won’ by an Islamic party knowing this would appease the feelings of all gullible folk.

The first and immediate result of this plan and the speech of the King is that the politics of divide and conquer had a devastating effect on the unity of the different organizations that demanded reform.

The ones who truly knew what a promise of the King meant didn’t believe that the message was heartfelt but a lot of organizations and people were fooled by well thought out chess move.

Once the tempers were cooled the repression went on in a far more aggravated form, journalists were jailed, rappers harassed and put in jail on bogus plaints and dissidents found themselves thrown in jail for 20 years and more. Furthermore the Moroccans abroad were promised they would participate in the so-called elections and this also proved to an empty promise.

The so-called Islamic prime minister found himself used and abused and once he had served the predefined goal discarded.
