We must first and foremost realize that the mere fact that we have to chant this at protests is an indicative of the deplorable state of our world.
The horrendous and sickening murder of George Floyd has once again and probably more than ever before united the righteous people asking for an end to police violence and real equal rights for black people and other minorities.
The knee on the neck of George Floyd is an undeniable token for the knee on all our necks and on the necks of all those in this world for strive for independence, freedom and equal rights. And what we see all over the world is that those countries that claim to be civilized and to hold human rights in high esteem are the very ones that support dictators and genocide committing regimes when in serves their interests.
The steps taken by Attorney General Keith Ellison are absolutely positive but let’s not fool ourselves this is no moment for euphoria since such moments are often followed by gut-wrenching disappointment.
One should take notice of the fact that notwithstanding all clear and undeniable evidence it took days to arrest the murderer of George Floyd and it took even longer to arrest his accomplices. One should also take into consideration the cautious words of the Attorney General in his press conference when saying that we still have to wait for the court hearings and the outcome thereof.
As much as I hope for a positive outcome in the case of George Floyd and as much as I would applaud real change I’m not convinced that this change will come with a Martin Luther King approach and I think it may be time to achieve that real change that has been denied for over more than 400 years with a Malcolm X approach.
Those in power seem only to be impressed by even bigger power and that’s people’s power which until this very they have been laughing at because they have successfully convinced the people that those who don’t agree with them are terrorists, agitators and looters.
